It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Tracker using Raspberry Pi
Another interesting idea is to make your own tracker. It requires a separate GPS module that you can, say, put on your pet and let them roam around freely. The tracker will keep you alerted about the location of your pet. For this project, you will need your own battery as well.
