3 DIFFERENT TYPES OF SKILLS

Digital, data and tech roles require a wide range of skills. These are often grouped at a high level as:

Personal skills: sometimes referred to as ‘soft’ skills, core or interpersonal skills.

Technical skills: sometimes referred to as ‘hard’ skills.

Foundational skills: digital literacy. These skills are the basis for all roles in tech, digital and data.

DIGITAL SKILLS TRIANGLE

The phrase digital skills gets used a lot, and can mean something different in different contexts. The digital skills triangle in Figure 3.1 was developed based on research and highlights the equal importance of technical and personal skills, and how the different areas of skill fit together.
