17 CAREER PATHS IN TECH

There is no one set career path in tech. No path is right or wrong.

Job titles often indicate your level of experience and responsibility; see Figure 17.1. Entry-level roles often include trainee or junior in the title. By applying for new roles or getting promoted, it is possible to gain additional skills, knowledge and experience. Getting to a position of ‘lead’ often represents a key point of divergence in a tech career. You can have increased responsibility for leading people, which moves you towards a management and leadership path.
