Chapter 2. Tivoli Management Framework basics 33
2.6.1 MDist and MDist 2
Tivoli provides two multiplexed distribution services: MDist and MDist 2.
MDist: MDist performs a synchronous transfer of data through a configured
hierarchy of repeaters. The data is not stored in an intermediate location, so
the size of the data transfer can be quite large. Because the data are not
stored at the repeater, if a distribution fails, it must be restarted from the
beginning.
MDist 2: MDist 2 is an extension of MDist to handle large-scale distributions.
MDist II transfers data asynchronously. It uses repeater depots to store the
data to ensure successful delivery. If the distribution is unsuccessful, it can
resume without starting from the beginning.
