B
rooklyn-based artist Marguerite Dabaie was raised
in San Francisco before moving to Manhattan,
where she attended the School of Visual Arts. She
graduated in 2007 with honors and decided to stay in New
York City.
While in school, she received two grants to publish her on-
going comic, The Hookah Girl and Other True Stories, about
her multicultural upbringing as a Christian half-Palestinian
living in America. She is also the author of Unsichtbares/
Sichtbares: Your Guide to Fashionable Living, a short comic
about two siblings struggling to survive in Weimar Germany.
Dabaie is now a freelance illustrator and comic artist
in addition to happily working at an art museum. She is
cochair of the Cartoonists’ Roundtable, which is held at the
Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in Manhattan.
While juggling her many pursuits, she is working on the
second volume of The Hookah Girl and eating too much
candy.
