Abstract
This chapter explores the integration and critical role of artificial intelligence (AI) in digital immune systems, illustrating AI’s transformative capabilities in contemporary cybersecurity practices. Drawing parallels between biological immune systems and digital defenses, it highlights how AI technologies, including machine learning (ML), deep learning, and natural language processing, enable real-time anomaly detection, rapid response, and adaptive threat mitigation. The evolution of digital immune systems, from early antivirus methods to advanced AI-driven cybersecurity frameworks, underscores AI’s significance in addressing the increasing complexity and scale of modern cyber threats. The chapter further discusses the application of various ML approaches, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning, alongside advanced deep learning models such as convolutional neural networks and auto encoders, in identifying sophisticated cyber threats. Practical examples from sectors like finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and public services illustrate both successes and challenges in deploying AI-driven cybersecurity.
