Abstract
The pharmaceutical industry is confronted with enormous challenges in maintaining drug authenticity, regulatory compliance, and supply chain openness. Counterfeit drugs, ineffective record-keeping, and security weaknesses are critical risks to public health and industry stakeholders. This chapter outlines a blockchain-based drug traceability system that combines zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs), verifiable credentials (VCs), and the interplanetary file system (IPFS) to improve privacy, security, and efficiency. Utilizing Ethereum smart contracts, decentralized storage, and cryptographic verification mechanisms, this system provides end-to-end traceability while upholding data confidentiality. The chapter delves into blockchain basics, security mechanisms, practical applications, and regulatory issues while it discusses the future of blockchain-based pharmaceutical supply chains.
