So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

HOW THE DOCUMENTARY DEVELOPED
Much of the development in today’s documentary eloquence is contained in less than a dozen key documentaries. These films, their titles in bold print, show the unfolding of a whole language and still grip audiences. Copies are discoverable on streaming platforms, in particular YouTube. Be careful you don’t watch by accident one of the “personalized” versions in which someone has mashed up (re-edited) the original. Often the Internet holds revealing interviews with or about notable directors.
Since threads of my own history and that of my family pop up momentarily during this 120-year development, I have taken the liberty of mentioning them. Cinema is after all a social art spun from intertwined ...
