Abstract
Over the last few years, e-commerce has caused issues in cost-effective last-mile delivery. In response, companies are turning towards autonomous delivery technologies such as drones. Drone delivery platforms are poised to cut shipping costs and transit times by exploiting drones’ applicability beyond current use cases. Additionally, the effect of big data on logistics is evident, as large data sets are employed to increase operational efficiency across the supply chain. This chapter summarizes existing works on logistics support by drones, emphasizing research issues and trends currently and in the future. It focuses on the risks and challenges of drones in logistics networks and provides insights into how Big Data can be optimized. Moreover, practical methods of applying Big Data in logistics are presented. The chapter discusses major issues and briefly sketches new ...
