It’s hard for me to say precisely where all of the ideas in this book have come from. They’ve probably come from other books and more than a few of them from other people, many of whom I mentioned in the acknowledgments at the beginning of this book. To give credit where I know it’s due in the wider world, though, and to give you some useful (even if obvious) pointers to important ideas and people, I’ll make brief mention here of some thinkers, writers, and historical figures I know have had a big impact on my way of thinking and who probably should on yours.
