MAAP [Microbial Amino Acid Production] A general name for processes that use microorganisms
for making amino acids. The feed material may be a sugar or biomass. Many organisms can be used, but
Corynebacterium glutamicum is popular. The amino acid products are used as food supplements and animal
feeds. The largest tonnage amino acids made in this way are sodium glutamate and -lysine.
