Use
Straight edges and setsquares are often used to obtain straight lines.
The straightedge gives exactness, and, when used in geometrical
construction with a scale and compasses enables dimensions to be
decided.
Correctly proportioned drawings can also be produced,
e.g.
minor detail drawings and perspective drawings.
Technique
The straight edge still permits a differentiation of the line enabling
construction lines to be faint. Clear precise drawings are generally
achieved with a straight edge.
