is as

simple

as

possible

and

illustrates

the 'principle'

or

Operation'

of a

system. They

are

used

for

manipulating ideas

and

suggestions towards solutions

in the

syntheses phase

of

design,

and

enable

the

designer

to

distinguish more clearly between

the

different possibilities.
