So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Ctrl + Enter

This chapter will introduce you to Ctrl + Enter and then through three real-life scenarios show the added value of using it. So, without further ado, let’s start with something really simple. We want to put today’s date in cell A1 and format it so that we can see the name of the day next to the date.
Here is a step by step progression:
- select cell A1
- press Ctrl + semi-colon (;) to get today’s date
- press Ctrl + Enter
- press Ctrl + 1 to activate ‘Format Cells’ dialog
- choose Custom format and type DDDD, MM/DD/YYYY
The key here is the third step. Did you notice how pressing Ctrl + Enter instead of pressing Enter or Tab has confirmed the cell entry, but in a way that still left A1 the active cell so that we could ...
