I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Ceph as backup
So far, we have extended our Cinder storage layout to use Ceph as a storage backend. As shown previously, the latest releases of Cinder have integrated a new Cinder mechanism to back up volumes on external storage targets by means of the cinder-backup service. In this section, we will use an additional Cinder driver for Ceph RBD backup:
- Starting by the Ceph storage nodes, make sure to provide a storage pool for the Cinder backup volumes as follows:
# ceph osd pool create cinder-ext-backups 256
- To authenticate against the Ceph API, create a new cinder-backup user to enable read and write permissions in the new pool created in the previous step:
# ceph auth get-or-create client.cinder-backup mon 'allow r' osd 'allow class-read ...
