Chapter 6, How to Hack a Video Periscope for Your Car
Connect camera cable to video and power cables
The camera has a very small connector for its power and video signals. The
wires from the camera connector cables need to be connected to the larger
video and power cables. The most reliable and easy-to-assemble method I
found was to take a small piece of perforated board, solder the connectors
to each side, and then bridge the appropriate signals together. Figure 6-11
shows a diagram of the connections for the Panasonic camera and connec-
tor cable. Figure 6-12 shows a completed connection board. The two uncon-
nected wires are unused for this project.
This delicate cable assembly should be secured against the back side of the
camera enclosure. Use two tie wraps to hold the large cables in place, as
shown in Figure 6-13. The notch in the corner allows the cables to escape.
Connect the power supply to the power cable and measure the voltage at the
small camera connector circuit board to ensure that everything is connected
properly.
Assemble the enclosure walls and plug in the camera.
Add connectors to ends of video and power cables
Add a 1/8” two-conductor plug to the end of the power cable and a 1/8”
three-conductor plug to the end of the video cable. Figure 6-14 shows how I
wired my video cable to a 1/8” plug. You should test this cable out before you
install the plasti ...
