I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Going out on your own may look glamorous and care free. It can be exactly the opposite.
You need to make sure you have an adequate safety net and be able to logically explain to your family what you are doing. If you are married, your spouse has to buy into this 100 percent. If your parents question you, you need to be able to explain why you will not have to move back into their house in three months.
The more preparation and legwork you do while you are still working in a full-time position, the better. Before cutting the strings, make sure you can easily answer the following questions:
- What is the scope of services you will be offering?
- Who are the customers who will be buying your services?
