EVOLUTION OF TECHNOLOGY IN LEARNING
Before there were books, people learned by watching and practicing—trial and error. There were apprentices and squires, and knowledge was passed down through mentoring, live instruction, and feedback. This model was not scalable for many specialized skills, and the ability to learn new information, skills, or trades was limited by who you knew and who would agree to teach you. Books—as a learning technology—made instruction, if not experience, scalable. They didn’t replace the previous models of instruction, but added ways to learn for those who had access to books and were literate in this new technology.
