When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
The Pico Projector Era
The Optoma Pico Projector is a completely silent, ridiculously simple micro-projector. It produces an astonishingly bright, clear, vivid video or still image up to 65 inches across; a dark room or bright "screen" really helps with the brightness. Each battery charge lasts for about 90 minutes. (There are other pico projectors, too, from 3M and others.)
An iPhone and a pico projector—that's the entire setup. A tent wall can become a movie screen when you're camping. You can set this little gizmo on your airplane tray table and project onto the back of the seat in front of you. Or park the projector on a little tripod and project tonight's dorm-room Wii marathon onto a bed sheet or someone's T-shirt.
The necessary video cable for the iPod or iPhone comes with the Optoma projector. (The projector produces an image only when videos are playing. It doesn't show, for example, the iPhone's Web browser, e-mail program, or other applications.)
Just remember that the projector doesn't amplify the sound. You'll want headphones or an external speaker if you've got a crowd. ($300; www.optoma.com)
