I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
How to Find Good Apps
If the Recommended, What's Hot, and Top 25 lists aren't getting you inspired, there are all kinds of Web sites dedicated to reviewing and recommending iPhone apps. There's appcraver.com, for example, and iphoneappreviews.net, whatsoniphone.com, and on and on.
But if you've never dug into iPhone apps before, you should at the very least try out some of the superstars, the big dogs that almost everybody has.
Here are a few—a very few, a drop in the bucket at the tip of the iceberg, meant only to suggest the infinite variety that's available from the App Store:
Drawing programs. Etch-a-Sketch is just what it says. Shake the iPhone to erase your drawing. Or try any of thousands of full-color drawing apps.
Instant messaging. Thanks to AIM (AOL Instant Messaging), or Yahoo Messenger, or apps that connect to multiple networks at once (like Beejive), you can conduct instant-message chats right from the iPhone. Most are free.
Unlimited free calls. Skype is another free program. Whenever you're in a Wi-Fi hot spot, you can call 400 million other Skypers around the world, and talk as long as you like, for free. Or call regular telephone numbers for about 2 cents a minute, worldwide.
Radio. AOL Radio is a free program that delivers more than 200 Internet radio stations, organized by musical genre. Or listen to live radio shows. All at no charge. Or go for Pandora or Last.fm instead. ...
