Introduction

Implementation is often seen as less glamorous than strategy – the literature is overflowing with papers on information systems strategy yet few mention implementation. This chapter argues that to overcome many of the barriers to implementation (Wilson, 1989) there is a case for using implementation as a driver of strategy. In this way, implementation considerations such as top management support, user participation, etc. are built in to the process of information systems strategy at the beginning.
