12 Managing the IS function ina major utility

Introduction

Originally the scope of this chapter was to examine lessons learned during the development of an IS (information systems) strategy for a UK utility's distribution business and to propose how to take that creative process forward into the other businesses of the company. However, the analysis revealed a number of critical interdependencies that led us to extend the scope of the chapter to those issues that would facilitate not only the production of the strategy itself but also its successful implementation.
