It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

image viewer displays graphics files in a variety of formats. If you
invoke it for a single file, it displays the file. Invoked on two or
more files:
$ eog file1.jpg file2.gif file3.pbm
it displays each in a separate window.
