H. Edward Roberts was one of those rare officers who began his military career as an enlisted man. After graduating from Oklahoma State University with a degree in electrical engineering, Ed was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force and assigned to the Laser Division of the Weapons Lab. He arrived in the summer of 1968, four months after my arrival. Ed and I soon became friends, for we shared interests in history, photography, computers, and electronics.
