20 AIRPORT-SECURITY MISADVENTURES

Over the years, I have learned how to successfully pass through airport security with a carry-on bag loaded with 30 pounds of electronics. (I cannot tell you how.) But this success came only after many encounters with airport police, irate inspectors, and gate agents who had serious concerns about homemade electronic instruments. While I certainly respect and understand the need for responsible airport security, the downside is that today’s security environment creates special problems for both inspectors and anyone carrying scientific instruments on airlines. Here, I shall relate just three of my many security misadventures.
