CONCLUSIONS
We have explained the nature of the data asset, why data are difficult to manage in an enterprise situation, the approach to data quality management as specified by ISO 8000-61 and detailed considerations to help implement effective and efficient data quality management in an organisation.
Improving data quality management needs to include suitable allowance for the human dimension of data – without this, any data improvement activity is likely to be unsuccessful. Through various examples, we have illustrated the effects of beliefs and behaviours on data quality, whether at the top of an organisation or for front-line, customer-facing staff.
