Customizing the Quick Access Toolbar

The Quick Access toolbar perches quietly but conveniently above the File and Task tabs. Initially, this toolbar contains only buttons for the Save, Undo, and Redo commands, but you can add any commands you want to it. The Quick Access toolbar doesn’t have tabs or groups, so customizing it is fast and easy. You can also move it below the ribbon so it’s within easy reach. Here’s what you can do:

  • Add a command to the toolbar. Click the down arrow to the right of the Quick Access toolbar and then choose the command you want to add. A checkmark appears to the left of the commands that are currently on the toolbar, as shown in Figure 22-1. Several popular commands, like New, Open, and Print Preview, are on the drop-down menu, so a quick click is all it takes to add them to the toolbar.

When you click the Quick Access toolbar’s down arrow, this menu appears, which contains several popular commands. Simply click one of the commands to add it to the toolbar. (A checkmark appears to the left of the command’s name to indicate that it’s on the toolbar.) To remove a command from the toolbar, click its name to turn off its checkmark. To add other commands to the toolbar, choose More Commands to open the Project Options dialog box to its “Customize the Quick Access Toolbar” page.
