Sharing a Custom Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar

You may wonder how you can copy your ribbon customization handiwork to other computers, because the ribbon isn’t one of the elements you can copy with the Organizer (Copying Elements Between Files). To use your ribbon on another computer (or to share it with a fellow project manager), you have to export it to a file. Then you or your compatriot can import that file into Project on another computer. Here’s how:

  1. Right-click the ribbon and choose “Customize the Ribbon.”

    The Project Options dialog box opens to the “Customize the Ribbon” page.

  2. At the bottom right of the dialog box, click Import/Export and then choose “Export all customizations.”

    The File Save dialog box appears, with its “Save as type” box set to “Exported Office UI file.”

  3. In the File Save dialog box, navigate to the folder where you want to save the file and type a descriptive name in the “File name” box (something like MyPrjRibbon).

    Initially, Project names the file Project Customizations.

  4. Click Save.

    Project saves the UI customization file in the folder you specified.

To import a custom ribbon or Quick Access toolbar, first copy the UI customization file to your computer. Then follow these steps:

  1. In Project, right-click the ribbon and choose “Customize the Ribbon.”

    The Project Options dialog box opens to the “Customize the Ribbon” page.

  2. At the bottom right of the dialog box, click Import/Export and then choose “Import customization file.”

    The File Open dialog box appears.
