The ASP.NET Ajax controls are a set of four basic controls that serve one primary purpose: partial-page updates. Partial-page updates provide users a better experience when working with your application. Most web pages require a full refresh after the user has either requested or posted data to the server. This refresh of the page makes your entire page reload, which takes time and seems less than responsive to users—especially for large pages. A partial-page update submits only a portion of the page to the server for processing. In addition, the response returned from the server can be updated inside a portion of the page.
