Here’s a question for you. Which is more important to become a top sports reporter: knowing sports or knowing how to present sports on television?
The answer, from your teacher, is: knowing your craft is always as important as knowing your specialty. Legendary NBC sports reporter Len Berman agrees with your teacher. And you are not going to argue with him, are you? “Both are important,” says Len, “you can’t have one without the other. And you can’t have all of one without the other. For example, you can’t be a sports expert knowing every bit of trivia and expect that alone to carry you on the air. It doesn’t work without the proper television reporting skills.”
