It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
On-Camera Reporting
On-camera reporting is the art of gathering a set of facts about a situation, then marshaling those facts into an understandable report, and finally presenting that report so people watch it, listen to it and, of course, understand it.
Many of my students ask me, “How is on-camera reporting different from other reporting, say for newspapers?” The answer is this: the reporting, the basic journalism, is no different. However you do it differently. Your interviews are done on camera, that makes a difference right there. And when you marshal your facts, you will write the report differently and even structure it differently than a newspaper reporter would since it will be seen and heard, not read, by the consumer.
