One of the biggest advantages to using the Develop module in Lightroom is that it’s nondestructive. You never actually make changes to the original image data in a RAW file. By default, you are only adding sets of instructions that change the way that Lightroom displays the images. The ability to undo changes and compare different adjustments provides us the flexibility to fearlessly experiment, taking our images in new creative directions.
Tip
Increasing the Camera Raw Cache settings in Preferences > File Handling can improve performance when moving back and forth between images in the Develop module. I have mine set to 20 GB.
