Advertisements are a great place to find examples of persuasive techniques. In particular, advertising slogans are the distilled elixir of persuasion. Consider the following:
“Probably the best lager in the world” – Carlsberg
“Because you’re worth it” – L’Oréal
“Does exactly what it says on the tin” – Ronseal
“Guinness is good for you” – Guinness
“The Independent. It is. Are you?” – The Independent.
These are all hugely effective slogans but use different techniques to get their message across. In the case of Carlsberg, it’s the best. Ronseal works.
