Mistakes

The worst way to get things wrong is to make a stupid mistake. Demonstrating this perfectly, a recent CV arrived with a section entitled EDUCTAION.1 Another candidate listed ‘attention to detail’ and ‘excellent English’ as key attributes, despite their CV being littered with mistakes. Still, if you are going to fail at getting a job, you might as well get it over with before the interview. Of course, I bet there’ll be a mistake in this chapter now . . .

Mistakes to look out for:

  • Commonly confused words
  • Using the wrong word
  • Scattershot punctuation and no punctuation
  • Poor spelling
  • ‘Mistakes’ that aren’t mistakes.
