USB Infrared Transceiver
While the infrared control is becoming an ancient technology relic like the fax machine, a number of devices still rely on inexpensive line-of-sight IR transmissions to remotely control the appliance. I have an old HDTV display that still works great, but it isn’t network-aware. Given all the hoopla around unwarranted data collection in modern smart TVs, perhaps that’s a good thing. While I can use the old remote control that came with the TV, I programmed my Pi to turn it on for me. I’ll show you how you can remotely control your infrared-enabled audiovisual equipment using this approach in Chapter 9, Voice IR Control.
