I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Setup
Here’s what you need to build this project.
Hardware
- DockerPi SensorHub
- Philips Hue bridge
- Philips Hue smart bulb[43]
You can use either the standard white or color light Hue smart bulbs. Although a bit more expensive than the white bulb, I prefer the color light model so I can dial in the perfect color for the environment or mood I’m in. Here’s a photo of the Hue color bulb model in my hand.

- Philips Hue smartphone app
If you’ve completed Chapter 5, Hue Fan, then you already have the phue Python library installed. If not, you can install the phue library via the pip3 install command.
