Communication and decision-making are key processes for most organizations; essential for success, they also contain the potential for failure. Communication is well known to be problematic. Decision-making is also frequently harder than it sounds. How can communication be improved? How can we make good decisions? In this chapter we shall consider both as social and emotional processes, recognizing that this is not how they are usually viewed. From this perspective we shall learn about the role that emotion and connectivity plays in communication and performance. We shall examine the factors that affect decision-making, as well as the role of sense-making in organizational life.
