Acoustic nonlinearity in solids is described and various phenomena analyzed, taking into account the general formalism of indexing. The main phenomena are successively reduced to simplified (mainly monodimensional) forms in isotropic materials. The perturbation method is described and nonlinearity considered as a recursive effect slightly modifying the linear problem in progressive waves and stationary conditions.
