The use of power ultrasound in biofuel production, bioremediation, and other applications
J. Virkutyte Hammontree & Associates Ltd, North Canton, OH, USA
Abstract
This chapter focuses on recent advances in ultrasound-induced or -assisted bioprocesses. It shows how ultrasound can be used to alter enzyme characteristics and reaction rates as well as mass transfer in numerous applications, e.g., biofuel production, biocatalysis, enzyme biosensors, and biosludge processing. Ultrasound irradiation will continue to contribute to renewable energy production, biocatalysis, analytical chemistry, and many other industries in the future.
