38.5 Localizing Programs: gettext

The gettext module of the standard library is useful for the internationalization and localization of Python programs. Internationalization refers to the process of abstracting the user interface of a program so that it can be easily adapted to other linguistic or cultural environments. Localization is the process of adapting the program to the conditions of a particular country or region. Note that the gettext module is limited to the translation of strings. Other differences, such as date formats or currency symbols, aren’t taken into account.
