42.4    Creating an Application

A project represents just the framework for a website. The actual functionality is implemented by the applications that are integrated into the project. Just as for projects, Django provides a tool for creating the basic framework of an application.

To create a news application, we’ll use a console to go to the project directory where the manage.py file is located and execute the following command (the python at the beginning can be omitted on Windows):

$ python manage.py startapp news  

The program creates a new folder named news in the project directory, which contains another directory and several files (see Figure 42.3). Here, news is the name of the new application.
