Classical crossover, as a hybrid genre, requires a hybrid approach. Classical artists and labels will expect a certain amount of familiarity of sound, even though the project itself may be a significant creative departure from the artist’s usual circumstances. There will be other considerations that come into play based on the blending of various genres, such as a classical soprano singing jazz standards or Christmas songs. In cases like these the singer may prefer hearing their voice placed within a concert hall acoustic setting, whereas the rhythm section will need to be presented using the familiar sound and balance expected of a jazz recording.
