Richard King was born in the UK and grew up on the east coast of Canada. He completed his Bachelor of Music degree in percussion at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, and his Masters of Music in Sound Recording at McGill University in Montreal. After two seasons at the Tanglewood Music Center (summer home of the Boston Symphony), he was hired by Sony Classical Productions in New York, and in less than a year he was assigned a project as engineer with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.
