Many of the programs distributed with Red Hat Linux descended from counterparts in the UNIX world and have inherited the terse, sometimes cryptic naming style. In general, if you want to change something that already exists, the command with which to do that usually begins with ch. If you want to do something for the first time, the command usually begins with mk. If you want to undo something completely, the command usually begins with rm. For example, you use the mkdir command to make a new directory, and you use the rmdir command to remove a directory.
