When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Installing the Software
If you didn't install the NIS software during the initial setup process, you need to install it now. Start by mounting the Red Hat CD-ROM. The following assumes that the CD-ROM is mounted on the /mnt/cdrom directory.
Access the /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS directory:
[root@server /root]# cd /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS
Install the RPMS yp-tools-2.4-4.i386.rpm, ypbind-1.6-11.i386.rpm, and ypserv-1.3.11-9.i386.rpm with the following commands:
[root@server RPMS]# rpm -i yp-tools-2.4-4.i386.rpm [root@server RPMS]# rpm -i ypbind-1.6-11.i386.rpm [root@server RPMS]# rpm -i ypserv-1.3.11-9.i386.rpm
After the software is installed, the next step is configuring the master NIS server.
