The DNS Client and Server Are Distinct
Every network-enabled Linux computer has DNS client software, commonly called the resolver. The DNS client software simply queries its assigned DNS servers in the order they appear in the /etc/resolv.conf file. A computer's DNS client can be assigned a server on the same computer, on another computer, or sometimes on one of each.
