You, the Author: Article Writing Made Easy

Your inbox magazine will need content on a regular basis. While you can use outside contributors or panelists to supplement your content, you’ll still need to write the majority of the content yourself, especially if your inbox magazine follows the guru model. Writing so much content consistently might sound scary, but there are plenty of ways to make this process a whole lot easier.

The three resources needed for pain-free article writing are:

  • Google Alerts
  • Voice dictation
  • Banked content

Alert Yourself

One of the biggest problems with writing on a regular basis is getting ideas. Everyone can write if you give them a good idea. The hard part is finding that good idea. That’s what Google Alerts can give you.

Just visit Google Alerts (www.google.com/alerts), type in keywords related to your topic, and specify the type of information you want and how frequently you want it (see Figure 12.1).

For example, you can tell Google Alerts to send you information posted in the news, on blogs, in video, in discussion forums, or in books. Then you can specify how often you want this information, such as once a week, every day, or as it occurs in real time.
