Appendix 2: Terminology
accuracy: e closeness of a measurement result to the true value of what
is being measured. Example: A measurement of 5.01 mm is more
accurate than a measurement of 5.02 mm if the true value of a
measured block is 5.00 mm long.
baseline: e initial condition or data describing the initial condition of a
process prior to an experiment. A baseline is used for comparisons.
blinding: Preventing an experimenter from knowing data about an
experiment that could result in a conscious or subconscious bias.
