29 Cavity and endoscopic photography

29.1 Introduction

Certain subjects for photography are classed as cavities, where the concavity is similar to or greater in size than the opening. Other subjects that are in enclosed spaces and only accessible via a small aperture require techniques of endoscopy, particularly in clinical work (Berci, 1976a, 1976b).

Both general techniques and specialized equipment are described below, but acceptable results involve design or choice of a suitable system with considerations as to illumination (both in quality and quantity); correct lighting to show topography of the subject and means of guiding light in and conducting an image out, usually through the same aperture.
