Although version 1.1 of the EJB specification allows you to map entity beans to database tables automatically, it might not provide all the capabilities you need. The specification itself leaves a lot of implementation details up to the CMP provider. Although this gives the providers plenty of flexibility to choose how they provide CMP services, it doesn't require enough from the providers. In other words, although version 1.1 of the EJB specification allows CMP providers to give you tremendous capabilities without violating the specification, it also allows the providers to give you limited capabilities and still remain true to the specification.
